Gorge Walk Cottage

We stay here every year and love it more each time. The location is excellent, right by the bakery, fish and chip shop, gelato, gorge walk and main beach, so is very convenient for a relaxed holiday where most things you need are walkable. The spacious deck is perfect for staying out of the sun in the middle of the day or evening drinks and overlooks a grassy hill where kangaroos and curlews are constant visitors. The beds are very comfortable and the shower and toilet are separate which is nice for convenience. The kitchen is very well stocked with a full size fridge/ freezer and variety of cookware and utensils, making cooking easy. There are only fans in the bedrooms, not in the living area, but it wasn't a problem for us even in summer as there are screened sliding doors on either side which let the breeze in to keep things cool. A true beach cottage, this quaint little house has everything you need to escape everyday life and unwind.

We absolutely love staying here - the location is unbeatable being so close to the bakery, fish and chip shop and Whale Tail Gelati as well as the gorge walk and main beach. It is the perfect place to unwind and spend time with friends. The large deck out the back is fantastic for relaxing in the middle of the day and evening drinks.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay

This was our third time staying in the cottage and we'll definitely be back again! It's so comfy and cosy while being surrounded by amazing wildlife. We were very disappointed to find that a shop was being built on the 'kangaroo patch' right outside our back door. Such a shame that the real estate didn't even think to mention this!!! Ps. A new bbq would be a great investment as the current one is totally un-usable.

Lovely little original cottage within walking distance to Main beach & Surf club. Bakery next door did a good coffee. Private and quiet location. Loved the kangaroos coming into the garden in the afternoons. No wi-fi was disappointing. I would imagine you may need air con in the summer.

Beautiful old fishing cottage. The outdoor deck is an amazing space where you will be spending most of your time here anyway! Cottage is clean and well kept. The best location for any house on Straddie. Would absolutely stay here again at the great rate you can get for the house!

Despite of the good location the place is very noise due to buses and cars coming and going. The beds very UNCOMFORTABLE and the pillows, doonas, bed linen in poor condition .Practicals coming out which set up my allergic reaction. Due to this we had to LEAVE 2 days earlier. Fans, chairs rusty.
Couch is uncomfortable to sit on and very close to the TV. The place is really run down I wouldn't recommended this to any one during the Christmas period.

Lovely little cottage. We like older places with character. Great for relaxing on verandah. Good location for walks. Maybe one more chair in dining area. Difficult to get up grassy slope in our car to cottage when wet.

Exceptional

We loved the cottage It was simple, and perfect for our 4 night stay. We'd walk across the road to sit with our morning cuppas on the green hillside overlooking the stunning surf beach, with the wallabies, we'd wander across for a gorge walk, or stroll down to main beach, and the shops were right beside us if we needed anything.

We had everything we needed great deck with ocean breeze.Loved all our friendly Kangaroos day and night Close walk to headland gorge shops and bus stop.Bused out for dinner dropped off by courtesy bus from Hotel and Bowles club very friendly drivers.

I’ve been renting from Ray White on Stradbroke for over 30 years, and this is by far the worst I’ve had. The cottage is just sadly too old to be useful any more for the price you asked and I paid ($350/night). There is no street access; we had to slog up a steep grassy hill with bags and baggage, parking in the road in front. Clothes line rotten timber. Doors onto deck hard to open. Mattresses sagging. Ventilation in bedrooms via timber frame windows hard to open.
Stovetop rusted. Plates, glasses, cutlery random and cheap. Little cookware but then, could you use the stovetop anyway?
OK: despite the disappointing accommodation, Straddie itself never disappoints. Location excellent if you’re not bothered by being on a public drag. I suggest knocking Gorge Walk cottage down and building something special on the spot, for which some people will be happy to pay big.

It's a beach shack in a great location. While we had a good time at Stradbroke Island and happy with basic accommodation, I believe this property needs to be taken off the holiday rental market and the owner needs to invest in making a lot of repairs to the property. Here's what went wrong with our stay, you be the judge: Unsafe BBQ (it could injure someone); front door deadlock broke and requires replacing; beam for side deck needs replacing so that the deck floorboards are fixed; toilet leaks; tap in bathroom leaks; sliding screen door locking mechanisms need to be maintained; unsecure windows around property; no driveway onto property making it diffficult for car to access the property in the wet/rain.

We just spent 4 nights at this sweet little cottage. It had everything we needed. The cottage has 2 bedrooms, one with a Queen bed, the other 2 x Singles. All beds were freshly made with nice sheets. There were doonas ind blankets in the cupboards, as well as extra pillows. The beds were comfortable.Both bedrooms had wall mounted fans, they were fairly load to run over night, but needed the first few nights.The kitchen was very functional and has a full sized fridge...which chilled our beer nicely.The bathroom had a great shower and sink as well as a washer and dryer (both worked great)..there is a seperate toilet.There is a front and back deck, the back deck was great to sit on and watch the local kangaroos cone and eat and hop through.It is close to main beach and walking tracks, the bakery next door has amazing bread! There is parking for your car at the cottage, you enter from the main road and drive up the grass to the back of the cottage.All in all we enjoyed our stay, it was a great base for surfing and fishing on the Island.One thing to remember is...it is an original Cottage so it does have a musty smell, and can feel damp when the weather is wet outside. Ray White were also fantastic to deal with...we will be back!

We loved staying at the Gorge Walk Cottage! It's location is next to none, being a moments walk to the Point Lookout shops, Main beach, and the Gorge Walk itself. The house itself is well furnished and comfortable. The deck is spacious and breezy. We thoroughly enjoyed staying here and look forward to returning again soon.

This is a basic accommodation, a real beach shack, so don't expect luxury. However the place is equipped with all you need for a comfortable stay and the location is unbeatable. It's close to shops and bus stop which is convenient but you can also hear it all happening during the day. We didn't mind as were out most of day.

Carpets very musty in bedrooms even after days of open doors / windows. Real estate did try to resolve some of the issues of broken items etc which was appreciated. This was our second time at this property. We still enjoyed our stay and love Straddie.

I’ve stayed at the Gorge Walk Cottage several times over the years and it never disappoints. The location just can’t be beaten - walking distance to Main, Frenchmans, Cylinder and Home beaches, and steps to the Gorge Walk which, no matter how many times you do it, never gets old. Right next door to the Point Lookout shops with restaurants, cafes, Foodworks and the Stradbroke Hotel also close by. The two balconies are perfect spots to have coffee and breakfast in the morning or drinks in the evening - kangaroos are always around the house in the early morning and evening - on our most recent visit there was even a koala in the tree out front! While the house itself is fairly basic, it is extremely well equipped and always immaculate. Check in and check out couldn’t be easier and the staff at Ray White are fantastic. You just can’t go wrong with this place!

Perfect position, and the cottage had all that we needed. It's not a 5 star cottage, but that's not what we were after - we wanted a comfortable, relaxed stay and that's exactly what we got. Can't recommend it enough, and we'll be back.

In the heart of Point Lookout, walking distance from the beach and shops. Cute little house and loved our stay here.

relaxed, easy, simple - just what I was after

Right in the centre of Point Lookout with restaurants and shops including two ice cream parlours at the door step. We really enjoyed our stay in George Walk Cottage, which has been cleverly renovated. The lounge dining area opens to a large private veranda. It is equipped with everything thing you would need during your stay. The George Walk circuit starts and ends just across the street. We did that walk every morning and always spotted pods of dolphins and turtles. The cottage is the perfect starting point to explore beautiful Stradbroke Island.

Location was fantastic. A short walk the the gorge, fish shop, bakery, dress and geleto (where they made great coffee too) shops. Also close enough to walk to the surf club. The 2 bedroom house was very clean and had all the essentials for a great stay. Once you park the car you can really enjoy a few days without touching the steering wheel. I will be coming again..

What a location, perfectly placed for our trip with our 3 kids including our infant. Simple beach shack which was exactly what we were after. Only basic ammenities provided so I would recommend bringing soap and other toiletries. Would definitely stay again for the next trip.

Loved our stay in Gorge Walk Cottage. No need to use the car as everything is at your doorstep - whale watching, surf check, fishing, gorge walk, surf club, main beach and easy access to the circuit walk to Cylinder Beach. A holiday on Straddie, something we should all do annually.

The property was ideally located, comfortable even though it was an older building; close to shops, walking tracks overlooking the ocean and lots of photo opportunities for the visitor to snap the beautiful birds and kangaroos that live in this stunning location. We had a most enjoyable week.

Great location for a whale watching ,relaxing holiday. I made a cuppa early morning and walked across road for beautiful sunrise across the water.

Authentic Straddie charm right on the headland. Enjoy while it lasts.
